Who we are and why we built UNC
Mining cryptocurrency has historically demanded specialised hardware, technical knowledge, and electricity bills that put it out of reach for most people. UNC exists to remove those barriers. Our mobile app lets anyone participate in a mining network using a phone they already own.
UNC — Universal Network Coin — is a human-verified network. Rather than rewarding whoever can afford the most computing power, we distribute rewards across verified participants, which keeps participation open and the network's energy footprint modest.
UNC does not run brute-force computation on your device. Mining sessions accrue rewards based on your verified participation, streaks and referrals. That means no device strain, no meaningful battery drain, and no heat.
The technical detail is set out in our whitepaper, and network activity is publicly viewable in the explorer.
The UNC Android app is live on Google Play. The iPhone app, the exchange and the merchant tools are in active development. We are an early-stage team building in the open — progress, changes and setbacks get posted to our blog.
It is easy for a company to describe its values in terms nobody could disagree with, so it is more useful to be specific about the things we have decided against, since those are the choices that actually constrain us.
We will not call what UNC does computational mining without immediately explaining that no cryptographic work runs on your phone. The word carries an association with Bitcoin that is commercially useful and factually wrong, and trading on it is the single most common dishonesty in this category. We use the word because it is what people search for, and then we correct it wherever it appears.
We will not quote a price, a projection or a target for a token that has no market. Pre-mainnet UNC cannot be sold or converted to cash and may never be worth anything. Any figure attached to it today would be invented, and inventing one would be the fastest way to make everything else we say untrustworthy.
We will not build a rate you can buy. There is no deposit that mines faster and no premium tier, because the moment position becomes purchasable the network stops measuring participation and starts measuring capital — which is the model UNC exists to be an alternative to.
We will not ask you for a passphrase, password, PIN or one-time code, under any circumstance, through any channel. There is no legitimate process here that needs one, which means any request is always fraudulent and you never have to weigh it up.
None of these commitments are difficult to keep while a project is small and unlaunched. They get harder when there is a price and a reason to flatter it, which is precisely why they are written down here now, in public, where they can be held against us later.
